In this Trade Legends Podcast Short, Carl walks us through exactly what happens when training to become a plumber and gas engineer, as well as the challenges and advantages of doing so in your late 30s. Carl (aka gasladd) was told by his doctor that he would never use his right hand again. A freak carpentry accident initially left him unable to use his dominant hand, after having it crushed on a construction job. After his accident, Carl worked in the trades with a couple of plumbers as a labourer, ultimately deciding to become a qualified plumber and gas engineer within the construction industry. He started his plumbing apprenticeship whilst working on new build sites, which he felt didn't teach him enough about the profession he was ultimately heading into.
